Congo by Michael Crichton: A Picture of Humans’ Underestimation to Superior Creatures



A technology company discovered the mysterious and deemed-to-be-myth city that once existed in the very heart of one of the places in the Dark Continent --- Congo --- which promises a vast fortune for the company if the expedition they had sent to locate the lost city would found the well of wealth first, before other interested parties arrived on the site.

WHAT I’VE GOT

The master of a science-fiction thriller, Michael Crichton crafted characters that portray people who are goal-oriented, who will execute anything just to meet the favorable end of their mission, even risking the lives of other people.
He also inserted an entity that was able to drill into the reader’s mind the importance of human awareness of the welfare of any creature on earth.

CHARACTERS

Peter Elliot represents the society of academicians who will exude determination towards the understanding of an unexplained phenomenon. A hopeful scientist that wish for serendipity to come for him to grasp for a breakthrough or discovery that will definitely make a name for himself and will etch legacy to the history of science community.

Karen Ross displays usual attitudes of conceited, unsympathetic, inconsiderate individual. Described in the novel as youthful arrogant with tenuous human rapport, domineering intellectually arrogant who is insensitive, driven to succeed at any cost.
